Are low end laptops ($275-$375) worth upgrading?

I was thinking about getting a low end, refurbished Asus laptop for around $275-$375. While looking around, I thought about upgrading the laptop's storage (to SSD) and RAM (to the max amount). Would upgrading a low end laptop like an ASUS R503C-RH31 Intel Core i3 2350M be beneficial?

All depends on what you want to use it for.
New RAM and SSD, and the graphics system will still be lacking.

I want it to be all around faster. Ex: Faster boot time, faster app start time, faster add use, faster HD Stream (YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, etc.). I'm not going to be gaming though. Are you saying that putting a SSD and the max amount of RAM in the ASUS R503C-RH31 Intel Core i3 2350M will not give me any improvement on the tasks above?
