i had a short happen to where i could only either use the headphones or the mic, but not both at the same time because the original connector had the connections combined as one piece with two plugins. the audio would only work partially plugged in. while the mic still needed to be fully plugged in. i bought some solder-less phone plugs which do work, as i have gotten the headphones portion of the headset to work. I opened the wire up and inside there is a red, green, red/green striped wire, and a black wire which contained a bare wire and a white wire

, im assuming this was for the microphone part but i havent gotten it to work yet. i got the headphones to work with just the red, and red/green wire which is really confusing to me. any help as to connect what pieces to where in regards to the tip, ring and sleeve?

Solution
for anyone who has this issue in the future,

red/green is left goes to tip,
red is right goes to ring
green is the ground goes to sleeve.

for the mic, u need to burn of the bare wire a little it isnt actually bare.

white goes to ring, and "bare" goes to sleeve.

after a little playing around i finally fixed it, so i wont have to replace my 100$+ gaming headset. if ur going to use the solder-less audio plugs, after you have screwed the wired down, tape around it, that way when u put the cap on, it wont touch the other screws through the metal cover., gl.

tried the white to tip and bare to sleeve for the mic, doesnt seem to work.

so red/green-left/tip, red-right/ring, green-sleeve is working for the headphones portion? seems weird but idk. now all thats left is to get the mic working.

Yeah, I didn't think of that, because usually with a metal cover there is a plastic sleeve to keep it from shorting.

Glad you got it working!!!
