Hello Toms Hardware, I've visited the main site for a couple years now and i have a interesting upgrade i want to do, but i need a bit of help.

I have a GL551JM-EH74 Asus ROG laptop (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834232222) That i bought about a year ago. It came with a TN panel that has horrible viewing angles but otherwise the laptop works great for my needs.

So i want to put a IPS panel in it from a GL551JW-DS74 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834232405) a model that came stock with a IPS panel.

They should be the same form factor and such but my real question is will this upgrade be plug and play with my laptops current data cord and inverter or is this a pipe dream? Ive only ever replaced laptop screen with the same panel tech.

Thanks in advance

Solution
it comes with ips screen. http://www.cnet.com/products/asus-rog-gl551jm-eh74-15-6-core-i7-4710hq-windows-8-1-64-bit-16-gb-ram-256-gb-ssd/specs/
so it will work.

Yes i would intend on buying a screen just like one of those. I think the data cord would be the same but i just don't know if IPS panels take different power? Would my inverter just short out or would everything be fine and dandy?

Sounds good to me, thanks! I'm willing to try for the ~130 USD it's gonna cost me shipped anyway.

I'm in Fairbanks AK 99709 postal code, there is no getting around expensive shipping. A lot of companies will only ship Fed Ex 2 day or overnight up here. Which is dumb because you can ship USPS flat rate boxes or UPS ground just fine, but it's something you just learn to live with.

please have made some video of this replacement process, how have you can do this ?

thank you !
