Hi. I just got a laptop for repair. It is completely broken and can hardly be called a laptop anymore. So basically it is just the motherboard with an i7 4710hq and a gtx 850m, the charger, keyboard and cooler, no battery, no display. With this config I really want to get it going.
So basically it had no RAM, so I looked that processor online and I saw that I needed DDR3L ram. I looked at a stick of ram I owned and it said PC3L ram so I thought that was ok. I inserted that ram into the motherboard and with some patience and shorting out the pins where the battery should have been, I managed to get it started. Everything seemed ok. The processor and GPU were getting warm, but not overheat, so that meant the internals should work.
I than connected it to an external display via VGA cable and this is where I need your help. Even though there were no issues with the motherboard, there would be no image on the external display whatsoever. I tried a lot of things: trying to boot to bios via Del, trying to press F2, Fn+F2, F8, Fn+F8 during boot, reseting the CMOS, but no luck.
What should I try next? Please help me. It would be nice if any of you could try to help me identify the issue, because there are a lot of variables. I know no way to test if the VGA port is functioning correctly, nor the processor, GPU or RAM slot (the Ram is perfectly functional, although I don't know if it is what I need).
I'm looking forward for any rsponse from you. Thanks.
