ASUS N551JM GPU upgrade

HI all ,
I've been wondering my self for some time now if it is possible to upgrade my laptop's (ASUS N551JM) GPU which is GTX 860m to newer one (gtx 1050 etc.) I know that it is an eternal question so don't get me wrong please. I'm sure that the machine still has something to give and it would be a shame to be replaced.

first thing first, the parts that are used by laptop are mostly different than PC, and you can't really buy those parts like you can with PC's, so that's the first problem you have to solve, and even if you managed to get a new parts that are being made specially for laptops, the other main problem is, almost all of laptop's part are embedded on its MB's and you cant really do anything about it, and so, modifying your laptop's MB will be you second task.


So, what people usually do will be getting a new laptop or buy a PC so you can customize it more freely. Since getting the parts and modifying your laptop MB's will be a much more troublesome things to do.

Probably you mean that I have to procced to ''custom modifications'' in order to achieve such an upgrade, right? But is it do-able?

Yes.
I don't know how your MB look like, but given how my friend new ASUS laptop look like, I'd say almost impossible, they even integrating the RAM into MB's.

If you want to upgrade your laptop you might as well try PCIe x8 to USB adapter. I heard they managed to run dGPU thru USB Ports. And that's far more manageable and doable than modifying your laptop's MB. But, you have to search for that yourself since I don't research that myself, and won't comment on that matter.
