asus pc hard drive failure non recoverable how often does this happen

Our Asus hard drive crashed on our PC it was about a year old has this been a problem or is this an isolated incident

Asus do not make HDDs, it was probably a generic HDD in an Asus laptop, or a good HDD that just happened to crash. Good hard drives like Seagate, Samsung or WD don't often crash unless dropped or damaged by liquid etc. Its discs move at 5400, 7200 RPM (depending on the HDD) so there is always a chance something may go wrong.

You probably just got unlucky and the HDD died, or it was bumped, moved or damaged.
