asus pc inbuilt speaker problem

How can I fix inbuilt speaker problem with my ASUS pc. It plays fine when headphones are plugged in but all other times the sound quality is very poor when playing music (media player) and DVDs. I've tried updating sound/audio drivers and pc is up-to-date with these drivers.
Any suggestions please?

Poor quality? Are you sure that isn't just how the speakers sound? Did they sound better before? Laptop speakers and speakers built into PC monitors are generally pretty low quality and sound awful.
