My PC was running great, I've had it about a year and it just wouldn't start up one day. It sounds like it's starting up, fan runs, DVD runs, HDD LED lights up for a couple seconds - then goes off, and the screen never comes on.

What I've tried:
- I have shine a flashlight to see if it's the backlight.
- Switched out RAM
- Connected to external monitor
- Every combo of battery removal, power button hold, etc...
- Removed CMOS battery, held power button, and put it back in, still no luck
- Visually inspected Motherboard (not sure what to look for though)

Any advice will be greatly appreciated. I cannot afford to replace this laptop. Please give any advice you have. I'm willing to try anything and I do have soldering skills.

Thank you!

No replies? really? Well, I'm pretty sure it's either the motherboard, or CPU at this point. Looking at all the poor, cold soldering on this MB, I'm leaning toward it being the motherboard. Maybe a capacitor is loose, or maybe the CPU soldering is cracked. If I don't get any replies I'm going to do a reflow. I've tried everything else and it's just a last resort. The ASUS website is not working when I try to submit my problem to them...
