I've got an Asus W2J Notebook that appeared to be overheating and I removed the cover housing the CPU and took the heatsink off removed the thermal grease and cleaned everything and applied some new thermal grease and reassembled and it worked great for several days. Well, now I can turn it on and the boot screen will show and it will sometimes even make it all the way into Windows XP but eventually the LCD screen goes blank it even does the same with an external monitor connected. The hard drive appears to be still running but eventually as aforementioned it appears that the embedded graphics no longer responds. I've tried looking for a new replacement circuit board, motherboard, and "FOXCONN" is molded on the plastic "mPGA479M" that houses the Centrino Duo T2500 socket 479 Intel CPU. I thought maybe I could buy a new and not a refurb for this and give it to my folks for use. Does anyone have any suggestions about what I could do. I really want to salvage this without too much expense. Please advise!
