ATT and Verizon want "net neutrality" because that way they can charge more on the vast number of lower tier users on their wired network. They don't want "net neutrality" on their wireless network because the higher rate on wires will herd people to their wireless network which costs less to improve upon than to set up new cables. It's a win-win for them.

Wireless is different? Ha!

The only thing different is that wireless is the future, and they want to make sure they have the right to charge you as much as possible as we move forward into a world increasingly dependent on mobile data.

If the FCC falls for this utter nonsense it will break my heart. Cable companies tried the same thing a decade and a half ago; "Deregulation" was the cry of the day, with cable companies claiming that if the FCC stopped regulating the cable industry and we just let the market do its thing then we would all benefit from decreased costs: hooray! Actual result: cable costs skyrocketed across the country some markets saw a 300% jump within a few years.

The bottom line is regulation is there to keep prices fair, consumers safe, and to keep corporate greed in check.

[citation][nom]werenolightfalls[/nom]absolutely not, this is an externalization and violation of the commons!the internet is defined by protocol and a widescale network declaring that the physical protocol is limiting is at best fictious especially seeing as a large portion of bandwidth was opened in 2008. this is att,verizon and google trying to justify charging more money for services and in the process destroying our freedoms on the internet! this is the definition of privatizing a COMMON!! commons belong to the people they want the internet to be corperate ruled![/citation]
You mean GOVERNMENT RULE!

AT&T is pushing this but who is pushing AT&T, the FED is pushing this. Why is everyone so terrify of the Corporations & not the force behind the Corporations pushing this. The Corporations do not have a standing Army but your government does. If you do not like a company, do not buy their product, but if you do not like your government, what are you going to do, not pay taxes. We all know what happens then. That standing ARMY will be at your front door with a gun asking you why.
All I hear is how evil the Corporations are, but never hear anything about how evil the FCC/BIG BROTHER is. They have your health care, they have your banking info as of 2 weeks ago, can look into your personal checking accounts without your permission. For God sake man we cannot take a crap with the FED regulating it, literally. The Government regulates everyone's toilets. America needs to wake up & wake up fast.

@Dirty Durden:

Yeah ok, if I dont like comcast I'll switch to ATT. OH WAIT, THEY ARE PULLING THE SAME CRAP... ok I dont like them either, lets try Verizon. WHOOPS, SAME SHIT. Hmm, who do I go to next? Well theres nobody left, they own all access to the internet and are fixing prices so as not to compete with each other. They are effectively business partners, even though they each want their own customers. Sorta like the healthcare industry.

Another naive "free market" idiot. This is what we call a monopoly. Just because there are a handful of companies doing business does not mean there isnt effectively a monopoly in place.

“Another naive "free market" idiot”. I love you to man. You are sooo smart. Me, I'm just a "free market idiot". Wait, wait let me understand your concerns. You are concerned about monopolies with 2-3 companies that provides a service you, remember it’s only a service. A service that is provided to you so you can watch TV & jerk off online, right. Because you are sooo smart I guess you would know the government will use this to control every aspect of your life? If you & your friends that are sooo smart would just pay attention, get their head out of your A$$ to look around for a moment. They would see the FED already controls most of it now & with Net Neutrality in place will use it to control the other half.
Another naïve Socialist, Fascist, Marxist, Leninist pig.
Change we can believe in!
YES WE CAN, YES WE CAN!
