I connected a visio soundbar 200 to my comcast box and set the optical audio out to L-PCM as per the visio instructions No sound it works with the standard audio connection

Solution
L-PCM tends to be the preferred setting, as HDMI-connected tv's can freak out using Comcast's AC3 signal. There has to be a key on the remote to switch the soundbar to optical.

Also, and this is more comon than you think, make sure the dust cap plugs have been pulled off both ends of your optical cable.
