Hi Everybody, Newb here :) So here is my question. I have a HP DV5 -1125NR laptop, The monitor on this thing is completely done for. The computer itself and works absolutely fine, the monitor is just trashed. So I plugged in a monitor from my desktop into the RGA port. I reset the computer, Installed window's 7, Browsers usual stuff, still works fine no problem.

So I disassembled the computer and I removed the Laptop monitor, and plugged in the Desktop monitor. I press the power button and I hear a couple of big beeps with nothing to display on the Desktop Monitor. I just want to use the lower half of the laptop like a keyboard and use the Desktop Monitor. Is this even possible? Do I have to have the Laptop monitor attached and then adjust it within Windows to only use the Desktop monitor? or Do I have to have keep the Laptop monitor attached regardless?

I can upload pictures and a video if needed to show what im talking about, Thanks for the help everybody I really appreciate it. :D

There might be some laptops that can run without the laptop screen connected, but I'd say the big beeps are a strong indication that this one requires it to remain connected (even if physical damage prevents it from actually showing an image). However, if you're not using the laptop screen, why are you still using the laptop instead of your desktop computer?

It's a computer upgrade for my Dad, my parents are divorced and he's still using a desktop from 2000. So for him this would be a pretty major upgrade; it's just so we don’t have to spend any money we don’t have right now. Thanks for the Response! :)
