I have a extra 80 gb drive and saving it in case my hard drive goes bad.

Should I back the drive I have in the case or is it easy to get a generic
image
off the net.?

Thanks

Back it up, without a doubt. You'll be wishing you had if you ever have a
hard drive crash. A backup will easily fit on a cd, which you can then
store away. Use mfstools. Images can be purchased, a la Instant Cake, but
why bother, when you already have one.

I'd backup the one you have. You *know* that works.

Better yet, throw a big drive in it and toss the OEM 80 on a shelf.
Instant backup and lots more room on the drive to boot :)

I have a SD-H400, and have not given a thought to backing it up! How
do I go about doing this? Do I need to take the drive out and place it
in a computer? I'm really befuddled here, any advice greatfully
received.

Thanks

Go to http://www.newreleasesvideo.com/hinsdale-how-to/index9.html
This site will explain how to backup, and restore tivo images. It is not for
everyone, it does require removing your tivo drive and installing it in a pc
(one that is not windows xp using NTFS). Once you image your drive, you will
be able to restore it in case of a hard drive failure, or install it on a
larger drive, easily and economically increasing your tivo recording space.
I have a tivo with 2 120 gb drives, gives me a 278 hour tivo. Backing up all
your recordings is another story, requires a large drive. I only use the
settings that back up the operating system and not the recordings. Hope I'm
not confusing you too much.
