I know there have been a couple Speaker threads on here, but of the ones I saw were for higher budgets. So forgive me if there is a thread already on this.

I would like to know what everybody else thinks about what speakers to get. I use my desktop for gaming, and music and tv shows etc. I would like speakers, because the on-board speakers on my monitor are VERY quiet, and not all that great as well. Also because I would like something under $100, whats the best quality speakers for buck in this price range?

well for under $100 here are a few options:

creative t20
*pretty good quality sound however low bass output since there is no subwoofer.
logitech z313
*cheap but good value for the dollar 2.1 system. pretty boomy for the price and great for people just looking for decent basic sound.
logitech z523
*a step up on the above system. fairly decent 2.1 sound.
logitech z623
*this is above your budget... but you might find them on sale. this 2.1 is one step up from the 523.
logitech z506
*this is a 5.1 set within your budget. sound quality is going to be similar to the z313. great value for the dollar here.

*i'm not too familiar with this one but its another highly respected speaker set.
build your own 2.0 hifi system
*its possible to use a small amplifier and some bookshelf speakers to make your own hifi speaker set. you would use your soundcard as the DAC (use the headphone/front output or preferably the line out from this) and connect into the amp which connects to some bookshelf speakers. somewhat like this link implies however you could pick different speakers and/or amp http/www.cnet.com/news/build-your-own-desktop-stereo-for-under-70/

personally i cant really suggest bose though col...

they are almost all hype and unless you spend some serious cash most of what you find is rather poor construction inside.

thats why i dont ever list them. and i have a bose sound system in my car. i'll admit it doesnt sound bad but definitly less punchy than if i had some other brand.

in any case i think for gaming and movies something with a subwoofer would be ideal.

Thanks, I might go with the z313 2.1 setup, as I don't know if I could fit a full home theater style 5.1 setup. Thanks for all the advice!
