Battery Charging method

Hi,

Is there a preferred method for when to charge a notebook battery? I have heard many different theories regarding other rechagables, but not for laptops.

1. Should I run it down to 0%?
2. Is it okay to leave the AC plugged in even after the battery is fully charged (though I'm not using it)?

Mine stays plugged in almost all the time that I am using it. When I shut it off, however, the adapter gets unplugged. I don't know if this any sort of difference in the way the battery runs, but I just don't like leaving it plugged in when it's off. The manual for my Sager 5760 states "Completely discharge the battery at least once every 30 days or after about 20 partial discharges". I don't follow that to the tooth, but it seems like sound advice.
