hi,
I have bought a N46V Asus laptop just about 2 weeks ago. what i was looking for, was a high performance laptop for graphic designs, but even when i'm not doing any hard work with it, it heats up and the battery doesn't last long. please tell me if i should do calibration for the battery or not. and why does it heat up this much.

Thank you

Is it the actual battery that is heating up or the laptop itself? You said you bought a new laptop, is this "new to you" or is it actually a new laptop?

A few years back, I bought an HP "desktop replacement" laptop -- this thing had all the bells and whistles (including a 17" screen) Because of the high performance components, the battery only lasted for about an hour.

this is a new laptop. and i guess it has some new settings for the battery or the calibration in the BIOS isn't right or some code, which i have no idea about. but this concerns me that if i should take it for a checkup

yes. just as you said. i estimated the battery life. it only lasts for an hour. this is while as i plug it in, it starts heating up and the cooler (fan) starts whistling. it is annoying because my last hp lap top was the same. i changed it for this exact reason.

Due to the cramped space of a laptop, even budget models will exert heat. My wife's Toshiba does and it is no where near the performance level as yours is. That being said, the fans will kick on to mitigate any heat generated. It sounds as if this is normal and not something to be concerned with. I have no personal experience with this particular laptop, but heat generation is normal across the board.

If you fear that it is more heat than there should be (the computer is too hot to touch) by all means, RMA it. But if its not hot enough to burn you, only notice that its warmer in some spots, its normal.
