Best free lightweight antivirus program

So basically im looking for an antivirus that is lightweight while on idle that is also free. I just got a computer with a fresh copy of windows. Windows 7 because i was using my old key until later on i might upgrade to windows 10. This computer also isnt that fast.

Windows 10 has AV built in. I'm not sure you get much by going to a free alternative. In the past it's been pretty bad, but recent reviews have given it much better marks.

If going with W10 then the built in one is good enough. I'd only swap it out for a paid one if you wanted something more.

I've used Avast for years and can't fault it.

The best way to protect your computer is to use due diligence, restrict other people's access and take regular backups.
