Hi all,

I've been looking all over the forums for an answer to this issue. I'm on an ASUS G73-JW running Windows 7 Home Premium. After running a routine chkdsk, I booted into the OS to find a number of problems. First and foremost, my background image has changed to a black screen. Secondly, the display looks... wrong. I'm fairly sure it's running at 1920x1080, but it looks like there's no AA at all. Text looks very jagged. Also, the WLAN icon in the tray displays the wrong icon (a red X even when connected). Finally, a couple of the Windows Aero features are displaying improperly, namely, when dragging a window around, a bordered empty box is dragged (like on older OS versions), instead of the actual window. Finally, in Windows Explorer, if the display option is set to "Large Icons", no pictures are displayed. No folder icons, no pictures, just the filename underneath where the icon would usually sit.

Also of note, the registry key WallpaperSet will not accept a value. Doesn't matter how many different pictures I try, no path shows up and the desktop image doesn't change.

I've tried multiple reboots, ran Malwarebytes Malware scan, and also run a Bitdefender system scan, to no avail.
Restarting explorer.exe has no effect, neither does dwm.exe.

I'm about to try uninstalling and reinstalling the graphics driver, but I don't have a lot of hope for that.

Any solutions to these problems would be greatly appreciated, this is driving me crazy.

All disks and partitions report as healthy, according to WCIM and Acronis Drive Monitor. However, in Acronis, the critical event log shows a number of errors, namely an eventid 55: "The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable. Please run the chkdsk utility on the volume OS.", which coincides with the timing of the chkdsk run that caused all this.

Following that are a few eventid 130 and 57: "The file system structure on volume C: has now been repaired." and "The system failed to flush data to the transaction log. Corruption may occur.", respectively.
