Black screen after windows logo on startup

hey guys,

on my mates computer when starting up the computer after the windows logo comes up it goes to a black screen. you are able to see and move the mouse and you can ctrl + alt del it.

i have a feeling its something in the startup services that is making the problem. ive tried just a startup with only nesecary items and that seems to work

reboot and press F8 a menu will show up.....and select last configuration that worked. if it doesnt work, try to restore windows to a previous date.
