I was recovering picture file from and cleaning a notebook hdd of my friend's by connecting it to my desktop via SATA to USB adaptor, and even after formatting it Avira warning message keeps popping up with Boo/Tdss.M infection on the removable drive and master boot sector HD1. Does it mean that not only the notebook hdd but also my desktop is infected now? No matter what, Avira cannot remove it. What shall I do to completely clean the system and hdd? Googling showed some processes, but even they look suspicious, as they require installing never-heard-of antivirus programs.

Ran Tdsskiller from Kaspersky to cure, and formatted the removable hdd, after which it has been gone. Quick format didn't work, as the virus was detected all the time even after. I haven't done regular format how many years, and I didn't know it would take like forever. More than an hour on 140GB. Anyway, the nuisance is gone, that's the most important thing here.
