Boot Laptop on Second Monitor, Laptop Screen NOT WORKING!

My screen on my laptop is broken and I am trying to boot it on a secondary monitor. It is an Advent Modena M200 Laptop. Can anyone help me get a display shown on my monitor ?

Well did you do the following...

1. Turn the laptop off (not sleep or hibernate but off).
2. Connect the external monitor.
3. Turn on the external monitor.
4. Turn on the laptop.

It should then detect the secondary monitor (as long as we are talking a monitor and not say a TV or other device).
