Hi,
So recently I have been using a laptop (which has a broken screen) as a secondary system with an external monitor.
The monitor only comes on once in Windows, which was fine.
But Windows on the hard drive got corrupted, so I put another hard drive in the laptop which I know has a working copy of Windows 7 on it (I also tested it on another machine before putting it in the laptop).
When I turn on the machine I hear the hard drive spin up but I get no picture on the external monitor.
I cannot see what the computer is doing as the monitor only comes on in windows so I cannot enter the bios or boot menu.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Thanks for your answer but the laptop is only a core 2 duo and the rest of the laptop is in very bad condition.
I am only using it as a very light secondary machine.

Hi, you can try this, when you start the laptop, close the lid right away, maybe it will be directed to the external monitor.

Solution
Check for a function key combination that toggles external monitor output in hardware. Usually something like Fn + F4 or something similar.

Hi,
Thanks for all your answers.
The laptop is quite old it is a HP G70 running (well was) Windows 7.
