A week ago, while using my laptop, the screen flickered and went black. It outputs to an external display and I can change the screen brightness of the black screen. I sent it off to get repaired and they said I need a new LCD which is obviously expensive. Before I go through it I thought I would make sure that a replacement LCD is needed.
MERGED QUESTION Question from Sellers Hill : "Laptop Screen Misdiagnosis?"
Sellers Hill :
I was using my laptop one day when the screen randomly began flickering, I moved the screen down and the whole thing went black. It outputs to an external monitor and I can adjust screen brightness. I sent it to a repair facility and they told my I need to replace the LCD. Is a screen flickering to black with screen brightness adjustments typical of a failed LCD?
It could just be a worn or loose cable. A bad inverter is another possible cause.
Are they replacing the entire display assembly? Do they guarantee this will fix the problem?
