A week ago, while using my laptop, the screen flickered and went black. It outputs to an external display and I can change the screen brightness of the black screen. I sent it off to get repaired and they said I need a new LCD which is obviously expensive. Before I go through it I thought I would make sure that a replacement LCD is needed.

Sounds like it. The laptop is performing just fine through an external display, and the fact you can still change the brightness of the black screen rules out a lost connection/damaged/loose cable.

What laptop is it specifically? (Make/Model) And what are you being quoted for repair?

It might be more economical to upgrade & sell the laptop "as is" to recoup some outlay.

Question from Sellers Hill : "Laptop Screen Misdiagnosis?"

It could just be a worn or loose cable. A bad inverter is another possible cause.

Are they replacing the entire display assembly? Do they guarantee this will fix the problem?
