Are these the only two memory areas where one can save input data for appointments,
tasks, and notes?

TIA

Appointments and tasks go in RAM. You can't change that. Notes can go
in the Built In Storage or a Storage card if you like. I *think* that
means that they won't sync any longer though - only Notes in RAM get
sync'd if I recall correctly. It has been a looooooooooooong time
since I tried that.

What other areas of storage do you have?
(What type of machine/device are you asking this about?)

On PDA there can be a few storage "drives":
- RAM
- ROM - iPAQ File Store or Built in storage (the space which is left over if
operating system does not occupy all of ROM)
- StorageCard - external memory card

Interesting question.... which is exactly why I asked my question. I have been
posting my problem with synching from PDA to Outlook. There have been some hints
that the notes need to be in a specific memory location. As I have been trying to
learn about my device, I have a recollection of seeing, thereby having access to,
memory locations with three different names. It is possible, of course, that I
spotted some inconsistency in 'naming', i.e. what they were called. So, I decided to
try to answer my own question by using File Explorer. I only noticed the two in the
subject.

Please see my response to the post from Ed.

Dell Axim 3i. (Are you implying that different devices, using PPC, have different
R/W memory locations?)

To avoid confusing those more ignorant than me, I hope you mean RAM = Built-in
Storage! <g>

Based on a post in another thread, stating that I couldn't sunch if they were in the
Storage Card, I pulled my Storage Card, and in Notes, made a folder and put in a
note. Then I tried to synch. I still could not find the note in Outlook.

I was never a user of Outlook before I got my A3i. Am I missing something in Outlook?

AAMOC, tried what?

RAM does not equal "Built in storage"... they are not the same

Built in storage is the residual part of ROM where the OS is stored...
since it is flash rom, it can be used for storing important data that
you want to retain in the event of a battery failure... works the same
as a storage card.

Please note that I tried to choose my words carefully in the OP: "memory area" and
"save data".

Are you saying that you can save something to Read Only Memory.... in iPAQ?

> - StorageCard - external memory card

Are you suggesting that these are different memory area?

Yes... use with caution, small and may be overwritten during an os upgrade.

Notes, when stored in RAM gets synchronized with Outlook... If you try to
synchronize Notes from a Storage card using MightySync, you can get it to go
to your PC, but you will have to open it with Word instead.

There are some ppc that use more than one external storage device.

No. Sorry. RAM is RAM. I consider built in storage things like the ROM
storage files, since you can only store items there. RAM can be used
as storage *or* can be used to run apps from - your PPC decides how to
allocate it.

No. You can't sync to items on a storage card without third party
software like MightySync, and even then i am not sure Notes works
properly when you do that.

Storing notes on a storage card. Isn't that what we are talking about?

Probably. Depends on the iPAQ. It is called the iPAQ File Store and is
really a section of ROM. Most iPAQs in the past 2 years have it, but
not all of them. I think some of the 1900 series lack this feature.

>> - StorageCard - external memory card

>Are you suggesting that these are different memory area?

Absolutely. They are just external cards for storing data and not part
of the devices RAM.

Best of luck, I have been trying to do that for sveral years through
several iterations of Pocket Windoze ('02 and '03) and many versions of
AS with NO luck.

I run an IPAQ 3970, 512MB SD card and still need to soft bbot 80% of the
time to get AS to work :)
