I've been having a good hard look for a laptop around the £350-400 price range and I'm drawn between these two:

AMD Quad Core A10-4655M 2GHz
8GB RAM + 1TB HDD
15.6" LED Display
AMD HD7620G + Webcam
£400

Asus X550CA-XX101H 15.6-inch Laptop (Intel Core i7-3537U 2GHz Processor, 4GB DDR3, 500GB HDD
£415

My first ever time asking a question on a forum. Hoping a hardware wizard can help me decide!

Will mostly be used for work for software development, photoshop CS5 and web browsing, and maybe even the odd game on a lunch break.

The A10 processor has better graphics and the i7 is...
i7 if the pricing is about the same and you don't plan to play a lot.

edit: you would need 8gb of ram on the second one too, it's easy enough to add it but look for an option with 8gb. oem ram is less of a risk.

Yeah I read in the comments on amazon that someone went to replace the ram with an 8gb and found that the ram slot was actually free and the 4gb was on-board, so gave them 12gb of ram

Yeah I'm swayed by the extra 4gb of ram with the HP amd laptop, just wasn't sure how the processors compared in performance. Normally intel tends to be far more pricey so I've never really considered intel before.

Just reading about the i7-3537U and noticed that this i7 version only has 2 cores, vs the 4 cores of the A10
+ the A10 has lower power consumption, so it should last me longer overall on the go I would of thought?

The A10 processor has better graphics and the i7 is more powerful. I'd go with the AMD one.

HP Advantages:
- A10 gives better graphics
- 4GB More Ram
- Double Storage

Asus Advantages:
- i7 Processor is more powerful

I'd personally go with the ASUS because I prefer Intel over AMD.
