I want to use my desktop as an external drive for my laptop

If you are running Windows 7, the best way to do this is by networking the computers using a homegroup. You can share data folders with the homegroup, and add these shared folders to the library on the laptop. When you save files, if you have setup the desktop folders as the default save location, they will be saved to the desktop.
