I have cable within my house. I also hae digital tvs in my house. I want to know why can't I just plug ym cable line into my digital tv and get channels?? Why is a digital box required for a digital tv with a live cable line?

I believe the signal must be decoded by the cable box.

drkatz42 is correct. Cable companies have encrypted all of their channel outputs so that an activated cable box is required to decrypt the channels you subscribe to.
