Camera app questions

I am brand new to using Camera on an Androd tablet. How do I find out what the symbols on the screen mean? Also, it is possible in camera apps to change the number of pixels for the photos?

I think that my app came with the tablet.

Thanks much for this answer, but the manual only names some of the symbols, leaving others nameless. The manual does not describe the function of any of the icons.

There is an icon for resolution, but when I activate it, it only shows a column of 5 boxes with numbers in them, all the way from 5M at the top to 0.8 M at the bottom.

For resolution, I was expecting something like 1280 x 1024

No that is correct. It should show 5m etc. It means 5 megapixels. A megapixel is 1,000,000 pixels.

An example would be 1600 x 1200 = 1920000 pixels = 1.92 Megapixels.
