Can a desktop intel processor be put in a laptop with a similar intel processor?

I have bought a Intel Core I5-650 with 3.2 Ghz and i would like to put it in my Lenovo G50 which only has a Intel Core i3 5005U with 2Ghz, I know the U stands for Ultra and its meant for low power but would it be possible to do so effectively if i have an external cooler?

No. Upgrading your laptop's CPU, in general, is not a good idea. You'll probably just find yourself with BIOS and thermal issues--not to mention that the CPU wouldn't even be compatible with the motherboard.

Unfortunately, no.
The i3-5005U is a BGA socket, soldered directly to the motherboard.
