Can a virus spread from one pc to another with Ethernet?

Hello folks, so I was helping my friend get his PC into a "gaming PC" and I got the hardware installed but his hard drive was very old (hes not very rich at all couldn't buy a hard drive) and it was running very slow so put in my Ethernet cord into his PC and downloaded Malwarebytes and decided to scan for malware, short story we found 1521 of malware and i'm wondering since I re-plugged my Ethernet could I get his pieces of Malware or Viruses and could it spread through my home network aswell? Your PC was never connected to your friends? You simply disconnected the ethernet cable and used it on his rig? The answer is no.

It is possible this may happen. Mainly more so if you have Network Shares within the network where the Virus / mal ware can attack those network drives.

if the 2 pc were never connected (not in the same network or something similar) then you should be safe (i think)
