I have a new big screen tv in my living room, but in my 2 smaller rooms are older cable ready but not flatxscreen or hd tv's. What could or would make them work with the cable card or would they even work at all?
The sets have to be cable card ready and have slots for the cards. Your cable provider would also have to make them available. Otherwise you need cable boxes.

It is something Cox cable is now using instead of a receiver box for extra rooms. I think you may have to have digital tv to get this but i'm not sure. All i know is the rep said they are using them now in their DVRs to somehow make the signal available in your other rooms without the box.
Cable cards, with the right tuning hardware, are capable of decoding multiple cable channels simultaneously. While some sort of computer networking will need to exist between the DVR and your other TVs, the DVR with the cable card should be able to handle streaming of multiple channels to multiple TVs.
