Can I fit another processor for N56VZ

Hello guys,

Which processors might be compatible with Asus N56VZ except the original one i7 3610QM!. I kindly ask this because my processor is dead and I want to replace it with a cheap and less powerful one because I think It won't be a problem for me since I use my laptop mostly for browsing and to write documents.

I wouldn't suggest trying to change your CPU in your laptop because it is very hard to change the CPU in laptops, VERY HARD. I would suggest that you take it either to a dodgy computer repair shop, let them break it and then charge you a bomb or go and get a new laptop with a better CPU.

Sell the laptop on eBay or something (after you have cleared everything on the HDD) and use the money to get a new laptop, maybe it won't be enough but save up a bit.

Stop telling everyone it's hard to change the processors in laptops. That is simply not true.

With that said, your processor socket type is FCPGA988, which means it's not soldered, so it can be replaced...but how do you know the processor is dead? And if you didn't know that the i7 3610QM in there now was too much power for you when you bought the laptop, you are probably better off getting a new laptop anyways because swapping out the processor is probably beyond your skillset, if that's what not working in your laptop to begin with.

Really, for the average person with average computer knowdledge. Do you think that they would be able to unscrew all the screws on a laptop, pull the casing off of the bottom with force and not break anything? It's really concerning to hear that you think average computer user's can succesfully open a laptop and change a CPU without one hesitation / anxiety and two being able to actually find their way around in the laptop it's self.

This is concerning.

I never said all that, you are simply making it sound like it's still difficult for those with experience.
Sure, taking the laptop apart is tricky, but once done, the processor is easy.

In another post, you suggesting replacing the whole motherboard to upgrade the processor in a laptop because just the processor alone would be too difficult.

That's most concerning.

I suggested replacing the laptop with a different model or taking it to a local computer repair shop who can do it for the guy. But I'm not going to get into an argument about this petty issue.

Plus we must stick to the interests of the actual discussion at hand of which the OP has opened this thread for help not for us two to ramble on about unnecessary text in posts.

Thank you all! for your suggestions!. I want to clarify that I sent my laptop to a local repair shop and after they tested the motherboard. They told me that your processor is already dead, and to replace it the price was too high!! (approx 250 Eur) almost 50% the price that I bought the whole laptop (second hand!!). So I was thinking to try and buy a processor new/used but cheaper!, so that I could replace it by myself. I have some knowledge on computers how to disassemble them and what to consider during that process. where mine is currently done and I have removed the CPU!.

but as I understand from you guys you think that it's better to sell it for parts.. and buy a new one rather than spending time and money to replace the processor!. ...I would like to try at least with another processor as it is a good laptop and if that won't work than I will sell it for parts. But at least I want to try ( please suggest any online shop that I can buy good quality processors.

ebay, but make sure you do your research, it has to be compatible with the chipset on the board, not just the socket.
