Can I transition my Linux Laptop into a Linux Tablet?

Can I get everything in my laptop, including my Linux distro and software like the Eclipse IDE and the free non-commercial version lf the Intel Optimizing C++ compiler for Linux, into a tablet that has camparable processing power to a mid to small sized laptop? And can I get that tablet for a price less than $800? Would the touchscreen mouse work with a PC linux distro? And lastly, can I get a "bare bones" tablet with no Windows or Apple software on it? If I were to summarize it all into one question: how would you go about efficiently and cheaply replacing your Linux laptop with a tablet that has nearly the same functionality and software as the laptop, plus a working touchscreen?
