Can I use an amplifier to use 3ohm speakers on a 6-8 ohm receiver?

I have crappy 5.1 htib 3ohm speakers and got a 6-8ohm receiver for free. Is there anyway to make this work until I can afford new speakers?

You can wire a non inductive resistor of 3 -5 ohms with sufficient power rating in series with the plus lead going to the speaker from the receiver.
