i connect my camera but all i got is my camera screen turn black and there is no output.

Some DSLRs have LiveView.
Does yours?

If not, how much do you want to spend? What ecosystem are your ready to dive into? Canon/Nikon/Pentax/Sony/etc/etc.

it's for my church that me and my team want to try to change camcorder into slr. when we try to connect the HDMI to our SLR, it didn't work.
