Interesting that this article is about the circulation of the pics and not of the crime itself... I read that the boys gave the 16yr old girl a date rape drug and then... well, raped her. I hope they are caught and all go to jail.

Why does tom's post all these sexually related news stories. Isn't this supposed to be a tech site. I'm about tired of it. Tom's are you a tech site or a news site make up your mind!

I live near where this happened. Its been in the news for a while now and I just have to say there are always 2 sides to every story. The 'date rape drug', otherwise known as GHB, is actually a commonly used recreational drug in the club/rave scene. Most likely what happened was the girl took the drug on purpose, got way too messed up, started fooling around with a couple of guys and she was too stoned to stop it.

As for the photos, this is another case of kids distributing child porn of themselves. This is a grey area to say the least. Kids should just get fined and/or community service. Handing out harsh punishments for texting photos of your junk isn't going to deter teens. Kids are notorious for not considering the consequences of their actions so tough laws aren't helpful (though awareness campaigns might be).

[citation][nom]tramit[/nom]Why can't 16 year olds just wait till they are more mature and cautious to go to parties.[/citation]

Because they are 16 year olds. Hormones are on overdrive.

Hope they arrest everyone taking a video of it as an accomplice. Standing around video taping 7 guys rape a girl should not be a legal act. But then maybe Canada is in to that sort of thing.

everyone should definitely be punished for this..but for distributing those pics as a minor, I dont think becoming a registered sex offender is the answer..but should be punished no doubt.

and YEAH TOMS C'MON, this is a tech site, not a news site!

I think its sick that some people ("witnesses") took videos and pictures instead of helping the poor girl. Not to even mention that some degenerates would even do this in the first place.

As far as people distributing the pics/videos...I feel that some people might not even think that it is real or that it is a child (I have not seen the video so I have no idea what it look like), but I feel that a small penalty should incur (maybe some kind of community service). As for the witnesses I feel that they should get a stiffer sentence (it should be a crime to just stand their and watch someone getting raped instead of at least trying something).

"I don't think those that have the actual photographs understand that in fact it's an offence to possess those, and it's also an offence to distribute them, because it is child pornography," Lench said.

So if it was not I child porno then it is ok to be distributed?

I live in Surrey, BC - just 20km away from Pitt Meadows, the alleged locale of this rape. It amazes me that some guy even had the decency to put it on facebook.

This is a stupid comment, firstly the law states that unless it is consented (in other words, she would have had to approve of the actions before hand), also the use of drugs is not an excuse (the law also states that impairment does not give consent and that the person is less able to give their consent and therefore you should either get consent before the use or just not do it or it can be rape). Thirdly she is under the age. No matter what this is illegal (personally Ive asked for IDs in bars [Im 21] because the girls that are interested in you wont really mind). Also GHB isnt the ONLY date rape drug, there are 1 or 2 more commonly known as this.

As for the distributing the videos/pics I would say give the offenders a "slap on the wrist" for this one only because it may not be apparent that it is an underage girl (lets face it some minors dont look like minors, hence me checking for ids). By this I mean something like community service and maybe some kind of classes.

As far as actually have videos/pics from "witnesses", I feel appalled that some people could actually sit there and watch (not to mention videotape or snap some pics) some girl being rapped. I havent seen the pics or vids but 5-7 guys in a field by a party while the girl is mostly out of it (which is what the drug does to you) isnt something that looks "right". But the fact that no one did help her is just sickening.

I hope by some twist of fate you end up in prison being violated by nasty nate on a daily basis. And with a sick and perverted comment like that you probably have a good chance of it happening.

I cannot belive that you people are down-voting the only guy that confronts this loser, I am quickly losing respect for this site for not taking a comment like that down and for the people that post here.

because that's what they see on tv and want to be just like their peers, that's why they call it peer-pressure
