Hi everyone, I have taken quite a few photos with a Canon EOS 400D DSLR, but when I plug the camera into my pc, only half the photos show up on the monitor. I have already tried pulling out the compact flash and connect the card to pc via card readers, but still missing half the photos.

However, when I plug the compact flash back into the camera, and check the photos on the camera's own LCD screen, and the missing photos are still there, it's like the camera recognizes half the photos, while the pc doesn't.

The compact flash card is SanDisk Ultra II - Flash memory card - 2 GB. Since the card only has 2 GB, it won't be long until it's full. What can I do to grab those missing photos?

Thanks in advance :)

Duh! how did I miss that!

Anyway, have you ticked "show hidden files" and see if they are there? when you say half the photos are missing do you mean the first half or last half (chronologically) are missing or random photos are missing from all over the card?

what format are they in? it could be that half the photos were taken in RAW (.CR2), which most computers cant read without installing specialist software (e.g. the bundled canon software or Photoshop). do you have a memory card reader that you could try?

All the photos are in jpeg, and I do have photoshop installed on my computer. My problem with half of my photos isn't like having an image file that I can't open, it's that I don't have any image files at all.

And I did mention I have already tried connecting the Compact Flash to a Card Reader and then connect ti to my pc this way, but the half photos are still missing. They only appear on the camera's very own screen.

Oh wow, speaking of chronological order ........ I checked the files once again, and this time I sort the files via date created instead of file name (alphabetical order) and saw the photos are in fact here all the time. It was because when the camera is in full auto mode, the file name of the photos will have the extension IMG_xxxx but when it's on Manual mode, the file name will be _MG_xxxx (the four x are individual numbers of each photo). I have been experimenting with this new Camera, so I was constantly switching between multiple shooting modes here and there, and thats why I "missed" half the photos. It didn't actually disappear, I just couldn't see it ...... LOL

That was rather foolish. But thanks, your suggestions lead to my discovery :)

hehe I had a similar panic attack when my image/shutter count reset (IMG_9999 is the biggest it'll get) on my 400D and I got confused when the photos were in the wrong order! it's easily done!
