I Had a Windows 8.1 installed ( in place of another Windows 8.1 ) , i noticed since then that i can't Adjust my Screen brightness, through one Microsoft account i can "attempt" to use the slide to change the brightness but it doesn't change anything, on my other account the Brightness option is greyed out and says "Unavailable, Windows can't adjust the Brightness on this Display"

what i already did:

-updated my drivers

-Enable/Disable Adaptive Brightness

-Disable and then enable my Display adapter

-Setting the power options to high performance in the control panel

- "HP My Display" utility didn't work either, and i couldn't find my Hardware among the supported ones.

but none worked out for me, i checked countless threads but nothing i tried works, my Laptop is HP Envy 17 Notebook and my display adapter is Nvidia Ge Force GT 740M.

i wouldn't have cared if the brightness was somewhere in the middle, but it's maxed and i'm going blind!

i would appreciate some help :(

Hi,

Looks like you need to reload the new Chipset and Graphics driver in your laptop.

Here's the steps:
1. Download and install the latest Chipset driver found here in HP support site
http://www8.hp.com/ph/en/drivers.html
2. Us the Detect my product feature since it will give you all the latest driver for your laptop.
3. Download and install the Chipset driver then reboot your PC.
4. Download the latest display driver for your display.
5. Go to this website: http://www.nvidia.com/download/index.aspx and use the Automatic detect as well for this.
6. Reboot the PC again once the latest driver has been installed.
