Can't change volume on Nexus 7 at all

No one on the internet seems to have the same problem as me, but I cannot change the volume other than muting whether I use the buttons or the onscreen slider. When I use the buttons I get to change the volume for phonecalls, but this isn't a phone it is a tablet so that isn't too helpful. Has anyone got any suggestions please?

that is interesting. Have you done a factory reset and see if that fixes it?

Um no what would that do exactly?

It would re-install all the system files and delete your personal files, so it would be (theoretically) like you had got it out the box for the first time when you bought it from the shop. this should get rid of all software anomalies. If your sound is still not working then I'd suggest sending it back under warranty if it is still covered.

I would have to reinstall all my apps?

most things are saved to your google account if you've set it up right. when you reset your nexus and log into your google account it'll start redownloading all your apps again.
