Can't find microsoft acpi-compliant control method battery in Device Manager

At some point my laptop stopped recognizing my battery. I've seen a lot of sites say that I should disable and re-enable microsoft acpi-compliant control method battery manager. When I went there there was no microsoft acpi-compliant control method battery, only microsoft ac adapter. I thought it may be that the battery was just way too dead, considering that it was 5 years old. So I recently got a new battery and installed it. It still doesn't recognize the battery and there is still no microsoft acpi-compliant control method battery in device manager. What should my next step be?

The battery you got, was it an OEM one or just a generic battery? If it is was that latter, it may not work correctly for your laptop. It happens.

Also, are you sure it isn't recognizing the original battery, or just not charging it at all? If it is the latter, it could actually be the charger cord rather than the battery that is the problem. Or both. But when a charger cord is going bad it will often not charge the battery but will run the device.

It looks exactly like the battery that came in the laptop, but I'm not sure if it is OEM or not. The main problem isn't that it won't charge the battery, it just says no battery detected. It does it for the original battery and the new one.

OEM would have the laptop manufacturer name on it. That said, it may not be the battery then. When you put the battery in, does it give any wiggle room? If so, check the connections inside the laptop and then try putting the battery back in.
