Can't get passed the grey screen then black screen.

Hi, my Toshiba satellite hasn't been used for roughly a year because the last time I tried all the screen did was go grey then black and repeated. Nothing more nothing less. The battery/ charger light is just orange and the power light at the front of laptop stays white as well as the power button. Just tried it again and still the same. Does this mean I simply need a new battery please.

Doubt it's the battery, could be a bad screen or video card, maybe motherboard or RAM. Did you try running it without the battery? Try with different RAM.
