Youtube doesn't use java. You need to make sure you have the flash player add-in for Firefox, and/or make sure it's enabled.

For a while, Firefox wouldn't show videos on my computer. What I did to solve my problem was go to the menu, history, show all history, find a YouTube entry, right click and select "Forget about this site." That worked for me, and it might help you.
