CD drive runs continuously

My vaio model PCG-7184L CD reader runs continuously. Empty drive begins to run at start up and runs continuously. Only way to stop the drive is to open it.

Have you tried cleaning the drive? If something is in there that the sensor is registering, it can cause the drive to start up. If that isn't the issue, you may well need to replace the drive.
