Cd/dvd not detected

Hello, i use an HP compaq nx6310. The cd/dvd drive has been working fine but after today when i pulled out my laptop from the bag i switch it on and inserted a disk in the cd/dvd drive, when auto play did'nt open i went to my computer to check on the icon. How can i get my laptop to detect the drive?

you will have to check whether the cd drive is being detected properly.

first chcek in "my computer' (or your file explorer) wether the cd drive is shown...
if it is shown, then ther might be some power issue (or problem with the internal mech)
if not then check in the device manager under "dvd/cd drives"
if it is here then it should come in your file explorer
if not then "something is wrong"

then reboot the system and check in the bios if your cd drive is enabled/ disabled or appears anywhere.
if it does then you might have some issue with your OS, try reinstalling the cd drivers
if it's not here, then you definitely have to take it to a hardware center to get it checked...!!!
