Y'know I bought my current girlfriend her first iPod, what appealed to her about iPod Nano wasn't the color, and the tech specs while nice to know (more music = better), its just the classic iPod intuitiveness was a comforting familiarity after years of using other people's iPods. She's not computer stupid, but she's not her geeky boyfriend. The most successful tech products for women are ones that provide functionality with intuitive design. There's a reason why every female in my family pines for an iPhone and not a blackberry (or a new necklace). Marketing likes to overemphasize the differences between men and women, when in reality the majority of girls I know would assume get a new cellphone or laptop over jewelry.

Communicating how a product functions and how it'll service them better I think is the key in the tech world that often women appreciate. Printing numbers is the way to sell me a product. Explaining to the ladyfriend how the product will work for her will get her on board.

[citation][nom]curnel_D[/nom]I actually did a marketing assesment for a required buisness class two semsesters ago about this. One thing I noticed? Girls tended to pick the electronics that are the most simple to operate (despite functionality. They just didnt give a damn.) And Technical superiority be damned if it didnt come in their favorite color/scheme. This is why literally 78% (Statistics provided by our campus bookstore) of incoming freshman female students purchased a pink macbook with accompanying pink nano. For the women readers on THG (Which makes sense, this is a tech 'blog'), this article may be true. (Even though I see some glaring contradictions) But in real world statistics, pink will win over function every day of the week.[/citation]
Pink MacBook?

[citation][nom]TheCapulet[/nom]Yup. They sell them at the apple store in our student center.[/citation]
Seriously? Wow. I assume the school contracts with a Post-market third party customizer...

Stuff style and gender appeal, i want a product that works before anything else. If they slashed the amount of people working on how pretty to make something or how gender conscious and instead spent it on developing or improving the development of actually good ideas i would be alot happier.

I'm a diabetic (male) and I have no interest nor suffer such assinine idiocy in a company making a glucometer that comes in (wait for it) FOUR different colors. And "talks" to me. So just imagine how I feel about cells coming in colors.
Personal note: Cell phone usage should be restricted to those more than 71 years of age.
