Heya guys, I have an HP Touchsmart tx2.

It's running windows Vista(gag).

SPECS:

AMD Turion X2 Dual-Core 2.1GHz 64
4 GB Ram
64-bit Vista SP2 O.S.
Tablet PC functionality: Yes
ATI Radeon HD 3200 Gpu
I do not have ANY software/drivers/boot disk/ os disk that came with the laptop. I'd either have to DL them or keep whats already on the laptop.

I want to format the hd and load win7 ult but like all good HP laptops, this one come with about 15 different programs disigned to suck up processing power and 3 programs(N-Trig DuoSense, Synaptics Touchpad V6.3, and Pen flicks(I think might be part of hp software, but i haven't googled it)). After the format and using win7, I wanted to be able to have tablet pc functionality, and have the touchscreen function properly.

Basically I have no idea what Vista adds to make this work(if anything) or what HP programs are necessary to maintain functionality.

I was hopeing that i could format, load win7, add the N-Trig and Synaptics and everything would be honkey dorey.

Can I remove all HP related programs? Will touchscreen and tablet work with win 7?

I'll be checking bak all day! Thanks a ton guys for your assistance:)

P.S. there's a nifty little remote that comes with the laptop that has the hp logo on it, i'd like to keep it functional too:) But if it's got to stop working thats fine with me, i'm sure i can find a solution for taht prob on my own after the fact.

While you should check HP's website for your model and see if they have Windows 7 specific drivers, I think you can just upgrade to 7 and it should run perfectly fine. 7 and Vista are very similar in the driver department (they might be identical? i'm not sure, but 7 takes vista drivers a lot of times when i've ran into missing driver problems)... so before you install Win 7, just keep go on HP's site, dl all the drivers that you'll need, and then upgrade, and reinstall the drivers after.

Alright, thanks a ton for that! I went to HP and I got everything I think I'm going to need - the 14 or so HP programs that soak up my processor. I'll let you know how it all goes!

Alright, everything went completely perfect! I installed 7 via boot dvd, and immediatly i could tell the touchscreen worked. I added a few of the hp drivers and win7 handled everything else! The machine flys now and has ram to spare. All tablet and stylus functionality was maintained! I LOVE win7. . . anyway, thanks for your encouragement!
