Changed bios settings on Asus laptop and now all I get is a black screen.

So my sisters laptop was having problems finding a boot device, so I went in the bios. I changed some setting... it was something to do with the hard drive, and I changed it to IDE from whatever it was before. Now the laptop has a completely black screen when I power it on.
I was thinking probably resetting bios but I can't figure out how. Tried taking the battery out and holding the power button, holding esc on boot, everything I could find while searching for answers. I am at a loss. What should I do? Help is appreciated.

There is a CMOS battery inside as well. You'll need to pull the plug, remove the laptop battery, take off the bottom panels of the laptop and pull the CMOS battery.

reset bios. you can do it in the bios, on the exit tab if you have one there should be a setting to restore factory defaults.

From the sounds of the "Now the laptop has a completely black screen when I power it on." it sounds like he isn't getting the option to re-enter the BIOS. It must not be completing the POST

I can't get into the BIOS, black screen remember? Anyways I didn't see the CMOS battery under the panels, only the HDD and RAM.

You may need to completely disassemble the bottom to access the battery. What is the laptop brand and model?

for the cmos battery, its in the mobo so you will have to take it apart a bit farther, like maybe take the mobo out of the case.

So I took it apart and found the battery, took it out for a minute, reassembled the whole thing and tried again. Power came on, but nothing changed. Black screen still. Bout to tell my sister she is SOL haha.

well, what you could try is take the battery out, and then try to power it up, to make sure there is absolutly no power lingering in the board, let is sit for an hour, put the battery back in, and try it again. also, make sure the monitor is plugged in.
