Very frustrated. On a pinch, I purchased an Asus X553M. I'm still having issues with current Atheros card, although I've applied all available driver fixes. I can only stay within 3-5 feet of my router in order to use the net. I purchased a new card and popped open the laptop, but I can't find where the wifi card is located in this machine. I can't find the service manual anywhere online, and of course, Asus is of no help. Any help / suggestions is greatly appreciated.

This is the manual to your laptop http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/X453MA/0409_E8770_A.pdf, however I doubt it says how to switch out a WiFi card. Which card did you purchase? If it's PCIe then I highly doubt you'll be able to install it in a notebook. I recommend first of all to contact Asus, and from my past experience with them you can ship it to them and they'll fix it for you. But alas, if all else fails you can purchase a USB WiFi adapter, which can often be more reliable and have better performance than the stock ones.

Most of the Intel Bay Trail based notebooks use integrated cards that are soldered onto the motherboard, so you will not be able to change it. Consider a USB Wireless adapter.
