I found the company's website (www.epbfi.com). All Internet connections have symmetrical speed (Upload and Download are the same). They have:

30 Mbps: $57.99
50 Mbps: $69.99
100 Mbps: $139.99
1000 Mbps: $349.99

[citation][nom]mman74[/nom]Most people might not see any real ptracical benefits over this and a decent ADSL line. For a start that kind of speeds will only be local with the ISP, so to get anywhere near that kind of 'nominal' speed, you are going to have to be moving files with someone local on the same ISP.That leaves your everyday surfing and content providers at this moment are no way going to be catering to that kind of band-width for you sole pleasure. So in reality unless you are sharing files with your neighbour a lot, you might not see any difference over regular broadband.[/citation]

I'm pretty sure if they sell you big pipes, they have to be able to supply those pipes. IANAL, but I seem to recall hearing some legal trouble over what an ISP can sell you vs what they can technically provide. Over-provisioning aside, I think they would have to at least have a gigabit connection into the local trunk.

The main benefit to this is going to be having very large up/down pipes to more than one place at a time. If you're like me and own a web server, big pipes in both direction are very handy.

Not to mention its also nice if you don't live alone, and more than one person wants to use the internet. Hulu tends to eat up our connection.

Just remember, you might have this 1 Gbps HOWEVER, your only going to go as fast as the guy supports on the other end...

It's going to be a consumer waste until it's more widely supported...

well 3to4 years lather then sweden but cudos to you living there ^^
altho the only place i kno has it is in stockholm centrum. and it aint sheep to live there id tell you that, one of the higest apartment costs on earth.

i am on 50MBps cable, and i get that speed on most speed test sites.
thing is i never get half that speed any other time, it gets close when downloading a torrent via 600 users, but thats rare.
so i say the 1Gps internet is a fail.

There are already so many video conferencing devices out there, video conferencing is REALLY big in the Deaf community. The quality of internet really holds a lot of these devices back. This is great news it needs to go up, I have seen the need for more speed for years.

I work for a company that does troubleshooting with ISP's every day. I was talking with a Charter technician (I believe it might of been Time Warner or something), the technician told me they had something called speed boost when you did a speed test and it would boost the speeds for 30 seconds while you did the speed test, I'm sure all companies have features like that.

I live in Chattanooga and am a proud EPB customer. I have the slowest connection they offer (synchronous 30 mbps) and can't even begin to max it out.

For those of you who believe you could max out a 1 gbps connection, keep this in mind: the company I work for has a single 100 mbps internet connection for 5000 users. Even at lunch time (peak usage) I can download a 600 MB ISO at speeds of 1-2 MB/s which appears to be caused by a lack of bandwidth at the other end.

You can browse the EPB website and see their pricing schemes here: http://epbfi.com/internet/

FYI, for those who were talking about splitting the connection between 2-3 neighbors, the fiber is terminated at the electric meter (it's a new smart meter), converted to copper, and run to a keystone jack in the house via Cat5e.

To share the connection you'd need 1) a super fast wireless router 2) your neighbors to be pretty close to your house to pick up the signal 3) really stupid neighbors willing to pay $100 for an unstable internet connection when, for the same price, they could get the 30 mbps internet and TV essentials package and have a ROCK SOLID internet connection.

Holla

For $350 a month it is still okay for me on a few conditions such as:

1) true speed
2) no capped
3) not shared (private dedicated)
4) stable connection
5) Both local and internationally 1gbps up and down.
